Waiting On The Lord
Waiting on the Lord can feel torturous at times, as if the thing He promised will never come to pass; as if all the trials and difficulties were for nothing; as if it would be better to run off and do your own thing — but God cannot lie, which means the thing He spoke will surely come to pass, and you can trust Him to make it happen in a way you can’t even predict. He has not forgotten you or your years of sacrificial work; yet He is asking you not to work, so much as He is encouraging you to believe! Believe that He is faithful. Believe that He is trustworthy. Believe that He is good to you. Believe He will not fail you. Believe He is working out more than you can imagine. Believe you will see Him work miracles on your behalf. Believe He is with you in every moment. Waiting on the Lord isn’t about inactivity; it is about learning to enjoy His Presence more than you enjoy progress. It is about trusting that He can work more in your resting than you can in your toiling. It is about slowing down the body from hyperactivity so you can magnify your faith in Him.
Do not be so quick in your ambition to attain the promise that you forget the Giver of the Promise. The true fulfillment of the Promise is found in His Presence, for He is your Promise. If there are things He revealed to you and said will take place, then they will take place. Rest in confident assurance of His Word. Even if every human is a liar, God is forever the Truth, and no lie can prevail against the Truth, just as darkness cannot prevail against Light — and God is Light. There is no shadow or falsehood in Him at all. Those who think they can succeed with falsehood are like those who think they can carry darkness into the light — they are blind and delusional. For who can say they carry darkness in the palm of their hand? Who can command darkness, saying, “Go and stand victorious in the presence of light”? Who can tell the sun to cease shining or the moon from reflecting its light? It is only the Lord of Heaven’s Armies who possesses such power, for He does whatever pleases Him, and nothing in creation can prevail against Him.
