Foolish Fire
I count the days go drifting by
as they slowly slither off in time,
and as entranced by a glance at your eyes am I,
I wish the days would fly
until the day your eyes meet mine,
then freeze forever and never sever
the finite fiber of time so tethered
to keep you captive in my view,
for I'm a captive held by you.
And I feel the foolish fire
that lifts the dark away
and lights the day with rays of joy
when this boy reads across your name,
so I will fain take on your pain
and bear your burdens big and small,
for if you've found that you can trust me,
you can trust me with it all.
