By The Sea

By the sea, by the sea,

where my true love sang with me;

where the summer sun warm’d our skin

(over and over again),

and blue waves crash’d on the shore

(like feelings that crash and roar)

until our day was spent — perfectly

imbibing the world’s great beauty

(in sadness) — how the time went!

too swiftly to capture the scent

(I was overcome) from her perfume

as if only we were in a room,

stranded in our bubble of affection

that saw (with knowing) no imperfection

in the other’s eyes, but only bliss

was the currency of our kiss:

the stars froze (this could not remain),

and our hearts intertwined (in gladness)

as our love (by the sea) was one and the same.
