My Soul Will Still Return To You

Always returning to the ocean,
always returning to the tides:
the ways they captivate in motion
remind me of the ocean in your eyes —
how all my streams return to them,
despite the time or distance they have strayed,
like witnessing a fire burn in gems
while radiating colors they’ve arrayed —
displayed upon the crests and troughs of life
with depth beneath them both in darkest climes,
and all the while commotions like a wife
produce an elevated state sublime:

Stillness now. The stars and moon
ripple down in Gaelic ways,
a triple crown that leaves too soon
as highs and lows between us stay.

And even when it fades away,
my soul will still return to you.

A shimmer on the watery surface
like cosmic lights that dance in glee,
the rarest form of beauty’s purpose
reflecting from your ocean into me —
as if sunshine struck with the sweetest ray
to illuminate my darkest truth —
and even when it fades away,
my soul will still return to you.
