A New Wave
An end of an era,
and the start of the new,
as the days left behind
are lost to ocean waves
that once crashed beside us
as we laughed like little kids;
those sunny days seemed
like they would never end,
the promises of love enduring
through reality’s harsh terrain,
and we as ocean waves crashed
along its jagged edge,
a continual reminder of two worlds
seeking to coexist yet failing
to overlap further than they’re allowed —
a strange dance of nature’s ways
moving our hearts from loss to release,
an acceptance of the way things are
and the parts we’re meant to play —
like little kids who quickly forget
the pain of a moment for the joy of the next,
embracing connection wholeheartedly,
even if it costs us the very thing we love;
and like a wave that comes but once,
no two waves ever exactly the same,
we wave goodbye to an old era,
and welcome in a new wave.
